Sub ohm vaping, also known as sub ohming, is a style of vaping that produces large clouds of vapor. Sub ohm devices utilize low resistance coils that are less than one ohm, hence the name sub ohm. They also provide enough airflow suitable for direct lung inhalation. Sub ohming typically requires vape mods capable of putting out a minimum of 40 watts, but the higher levels can reach and exceed 200 watts.
Standard coils have a resistance of between 1 and 3 ohms, while sub-ohm coils have less than 1 ohm.
Although the coil resistance is the main determining factor in sub-ohm vaping, there are two other factors that have an impact on the overall experience.
Battery VoltageMost vape mods use at least one 18650 lithium-ion battery. The voltage range for these batteries is between 3.7 and 4.5 volts. When considering your mod, consider the type and number of batteries needed. As the resistance in your coil goes up, you’ll need more energy (and more batteries) to get the same wattage.
Wattage is the term used to describe the power output by the device. Higher wattage devices tend to produce more heat, more vapor, and more flavor.
The Pros of Sub-Ohm Vaping:
If you enjoy warmer puffs, this is easier to obtain with high wattage/low-ohm coils.
Because it requires more airflow to cool down the device, sub-ohm vaping works best with direct-to-lung inhales and provides much more airflow.
